Ghost Monkeys
Recycled metal bar, rope, saws and chains, 2024
Selected for an exhibition of public art at St Johns Waterloo church (London), Ghost Monkeys was exhibited in a tall tree in the church gardens during summer 2024.
Inspired by reports of howler monkeys falling from trees in Mexico during extreme heat in May 2024, the piece evokes the ghostly memory of the monkeys and their exuberant movements. The image is fragmented, foregrounding their dynamic movement. The use of recycled saws, ropes and chains references the infringement on their territory through deforestation.
